Leander lies on the northeast edge of Texas’ Hill Country, roughly ten miles due west of Interstate 35 on US 183, just north of Austin TX. Since 2000, the community has grown from 7,600 residents to more than 35,000. This makes Leander the 37th fastest growing City in the United States.

Education and Workforce

Leander presently has a population estimated at 35,000. The Leander Independent School District (LISD) is a TEA Recognized school district with over 32,000 students. It consists of 23 elementary schools, seven middle schools, five high schools and two alternative campuses. Over 90 percent of the 37 campuses are either recognized or exemplary according to the Texas Education Agency. It encompasses the cities of Leander, Cedar Park, Jonestown, and parts of Northwest Austin. Some 2,441 teachers provide children with an excellent educational environment. The number of students per teacher is 14 to 1.

Leander Independent School District (LISD) is reaching to close the achievement gap and to encourage all students to strive for the highest levels of academic success. From the youngest families enrolled in the Parents as Teachers program, to the seniors at the district’s nationally ranked high schools, LISD is ensuring that each student graduates prepared to enter college or a career. At the high school level, LISD’s college- and career-readiness programs include providing opportunities for students to receive credit for college courses while in high school, taking all graduating seniors through the enrollment process at Austin Community College, allowing students to “try-on” professions during COOL Week and encouraging students to enroll in a coherent sequence of courses known as a Program of Study. Additional features that set LISD apart from other districts include elementary theatre arts, art, music and foreign language instruction, with full- time counselors and full-time librarians at each of the district’s 23 elementary campuses. LISD also offers gifted and talented programs (kindergarten – grade 12), honors courses in all core subjects, computer, language and science labs, and University Interscholastic League (UIL) sports and academic programs.

LISD continues to be one of the fastest growing school districts in the state of Texas (with populations over 20,000 students), with more than 32,000 enrolled. The most recent demographic report indicates that LISD will reach 58,400 by the year 2019.

The Texas Demographer’s analysis of state-wide population characteristics ranks the community as the fourth fastest growing city by absolute numbers. Residential household income is $78,000 annually. Almost 90% of Leander residents have a high school diploma with more than 24% earning an advanced degree.

  • Chrystal Falls Golf Club, 3400 Crystal Falls Parkway,, (512) 259-5855. This 18-hole, 6,654 yard par 72 course is the “gem of the Hill Country” challenging golfers of all skill levels. Facilities include driving range, pro shop, snack bar and covered patio.
  • Devine Lake Regional Park, 1000 Maple Creek (46 acres) Passive recreation for the outdoor enthusiast. Facilities include a 25-acre lake, pavilion and wooded picnic area, playscape, off-leash pet area, hike and bike trails, fishing and restrooms with 110 parking spaces. Activities allowed: fishing, non-motorized boating and wildlife observation. Trolling motors are not permitted. Access to Devine Lake is within the North Creek subdivision.
  • Mason Creek Neighborhood Park, 801 Eagles Way (3.8 acres) Mason Creek Park is a charming neighborhood park nestled in the Mason Creek North subdivision. Amenities include a large playscape, a small trail and a water fountain. There are also picnic tables for small parties and dining in the park.
  • Robin Bledsoe Park, 601 S. Bagdad Road (16 acres), Recreational opportunities for the entire family. Facilities include lighted baseball and soccer fields, playscape, swimming pool, water playscape, pavilion with picnic tables, BBQ grills, concessions, restrooms, basketball court and an amphitheater.
  • Texas Stars Hockey Club, 2100 Avenue of the Stars in Cedar Park, TICKETS: 512-GO-STARS- It’s not just about the hockey, but fans that are coming from all over Central Texas to see the top minor league affiliate of the Dallas Stars. With an average attendance of well over 5,000, the Texas Stars are making Leander a destination for sports fans in the region.


The MetroRail offers comfortable and reliable passenger service Monday through Friday between the City of Leander and downtown Austin, and from Lakeline to downtown on Saturday.
